For some time now the 'highly rated' sidebar on this site has been in a state of flux. Still more changes to that are the first of the site's August updates.

It's a tricky business, accounting for the huge variance that can occur as the results of small numbers of votes, and trickier still when comparing some locations that have small numbers of votes with those that have larger numbers.

Now that we have a larger number of votes recorded on the site I've decided to set a threshold, below which hotspot locations won't be entered into the averaging. That should mean that the sidebar is a little more representative, but also means it's more important that visitors make sure they contribute ratings to hotspots they try. So get rating!
